All of us, at some point, will experience the loss of someone or something important to us. And when you do, you and your life may become unrecognizable. While unmooring, these are completely normal responses to a loss.
Regardless of the type of loss or circumstances that led to that loss, feelings of grief can be overwhelming and confusing. At times, it can feel just as overwhelming to talk about a loss, especially when other loved ones (though well-intentioned) feel unsure how to support us. This can feel especially difficult when you feel you’ve always been able to manage stresses and challenges thrown your way.
This is where I come in. I am a firm believer that naming things and bringing them forward are important steps in moving past them. I don’t see grief as something that you heal from or “get over,” but believe that we learn to integrate the loss in order to live a more hopeful and fulfilling life. It can help to have someone journey with you through this new terrain.
